The Coconino National Forest’s Red Rock Ranger District is planning to add non-motorized trails through the Red Rock Trails Enhancement Project. Between 2013 and 2016, forest managers identified a need to provide more non-motorized trails, increase the safety of trail users, and improve watershed health by reducing erosion. Public comments were taken during March and April. The Western Gateway will receive 15-miles of new trails along with adoption of 11-miles of user created trails. The Village of Oak Creek Trails will add 3 new miles and connect them with Dairy Springs and Pine Valley Trails. The Camp Verde Trails will receive a new 5-mile loop east of the town and the Thunder Mountain Trails will take 3 miles of user created trails and turn them into the headwaters for Carol Canyon. The work will take 3 years to complete.
