Sunday morning around 3 am, Highlands Fire District was dispatched to a report of a wildfire off forest road 535. Captain Brian Katrales say it was a challenge to find the fire as there was no wind and it was at the top of a ridge in the back of a canyon. Additional units from Flagstaff Fire and the USFS were called in to assist. Forest Service used a bulldozer to create a fire line around it, stopping forward progress. Katrales says crews spent the day making sure the fire didn’t cross it. He says the 2 ½ acre Fry fire did not pose a threat to any homes. He says though the fire is still under investigation, it is believed to be human caused as crews discovered a camp fire ring inside the burn area.
