Coconino County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Traffic Stop Results in Large Fentanyl Drug Seizure

Monday in Flagstaff around 6:15 pm, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Southbound I-17, resulting in the large seizure of fentanyl pills.  After stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation and talking with occupants of the vehicle, the deputy became suspicious as occupants provided vague and conflicting statements. A request for consent to search the truck was declined by the driver. A K-9 ‘sniff’ was initiated by the deputy. After circling the vehicle, the K-9 alerted to the passenger side door area of the subject’s vehicle. After the K-9’s alert, the driver and passenger were detained, and a search of the vehicle was completed. The Search resulted in the discovery and seizure of an estimated 40,000 or more blue fentanyl (M30) pills. The driver and passenger were booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on felony charges including Transportation of Narcotic Drugs and Possession of Narcotic Drugs for Sale. The vehicle was impounded.

This matter is still under investigation and no further information is available currently.
