Jail Trail Loop Sees Walkers for Weekly Interpretive Hike

In COTTONWOOD—Several dozen people walked on a monthly Jail Trail Interpretive Hike on Friday morning. The Verde River was moving at such a fast speed during the flooding two weeks ago that it was picking up small grains of sand and sediment. This was one of many fun facts shared during monthly interpretive talk, which meets at the Jail Trail trailhead in Old Town on the first Friday of every month. This talk was unusual because it came after a huge flood, and the area is still littered with reminders, such as washed-up broken trees and piles of sand. The entire Jail Trail loop is 2.1 miles and continues from Old Town to Riverfront Park. From there, hikers can connect to miles of historic trails at Dead Horse Ranch State Park and even to Sedona.
