Fire Continues at Tuzigoot National Monument

A fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in Cottonwood is still burning, according to the Verde Valley Fire District. Crews have been on site since yesterday, fighting the fire. Damage estimates are currently at 100 acres.

As of this time, National Forest Service Crews and Verde Valley Fire District Crews are on the scene and are expecting flare ups of the fire due to expected winds around 50 miles per hour today.

No structures are currently threatened, but a platform nearby Tuzigoot National Monument was destroyed. Tuzigoot National Monument is closed until further notice due to the fire conditions.

Fire Crews are expecting to be on site for at least a couple days, residents and visitors are encouraged to stay safe and remember, one less spark, one less wildfire.
