Police Say Overdose Deaths from Meth on Rise

Police arrested a couple with a bag of meth at a Cottonwood gas station last week and pulled over a car with eight pounds of meth in Camp Verde on Aug. 3, two indications that meth is still a popular illegal drug despite the fact that 28 people died from overdoses involving meth in the Yavapai County in 2021.

Deaths involving methamphetamine have almost tripled since 2016 in Yavapai County, according to the Overdose Fatality Review Board, and meth was a contributing factor in over 38% of the 2021 overdose deaths in Yavapai County.

Cottonwood Police Chief said the potency of the meth that the department is seizing is “off the charts.”
