Chino Valley Unified Schools Adopts Abstinence Only Program

The Chino Valley Unified School District Heritage Middle and Chino Valley High classes will begin this year with a new, abstinence-based family life, sexual health curriculum to be taught by Yavapai County health educators in eight class periods. The evidence-based, medically accurate curriculum adopted unanimously by the Governing Board on Monday night has been on public review, and no parents attended the public hearing Monday. District leaders said there was limited comment on the program. As district leaders explained, and health educators explained at an earlier meeting, the middle school “Making a Difference” and the high school “Making Proud Choices” are programs adopted by other area districts and adhere to the state’s abstinence-based standards.
