Flagstaff Shelter Services acquires hotel for homeless shelter

Flagstaff Shelter Services finalized the purchase of the Howard Johnson Motel on East Route-66, for expanded non-congregate shelter capacity. The over $6-million purchase was made possible through funding from the Arizona Department of Housing, Forest Highlands Foundation and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. The site provides more than 72,000-square feet, including 58-rooms, and is expected to serve more than 1,000-people annually with emergency shelter. The site will eventually transition to provide permanent, affordable housing.
