Governor signs legislation protecting surface water in the state

Governor Doug Ducey signed legislation to ensure clean water in nearly 800-state water sources. House Bill-2691 implements the Arizona Surface Water Protection Program by creating a list of rivers, streams, and lakes used for drinking, recreation and fishing that are protected from harmful discharge of any pollutant. Ducey says HB-2691 is the first Arizona-specific water quality protection bill enacted since the Aquifer Protection Permit program in 1991. Together, the two programs will serve to protect the quality of both Arizona’s surface and groundwater resources.
