Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies exposed to Fentanyl during pursuit and traffic stop

Two Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies were taken to a hospital Monday after possibly being exposed to Fentanyl during a pursuit and traffic stop. Lt. Gerrit Boeck says deputies were taking three people into custody when the deputies began to feel sick and experienced symptoms consistent with the ingestion of fentanyl. This was after the trio lead deputies on a slow speed pursuit through the forest. Boeck says the deputies were administered Narcan, which seemed to mitigate their symptoms, but they were taken to FMC as a precaution. One of the individuals arrested during the stop, 26-year old Jose Chavarria of Flagstaff was also taken to FMC as a precaution and then to jail on felony charges as well as a warrant for his arrest. Two women in the vehicle were not identified.
