Flags at half-staff today in honor of fallen White Mountain Apache Police officer David Kellywood

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff until sunset today in honor of White Mountain Apache Police Officer David Kellywood. Kellywood was killed in the line of duty Monday while responding to a report of gunshots fired south of Pinetop-Lakeside near the Hon-Dah Resort Casino. Kellywood located a suspect and the two engaged in what was described as a “violent” physical altercation where the officer was shot. A second officer then arrived and shot the male suspect. Kellywood joined the department 9-months ago after graduating from the police academy. He was born in McNary and was a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
