Chance of rain and snow Monday night through Saturday

Clouds will continue to stream across northern Arizona today in advance of a low pressure system centered off the California coast. By this afternoon enough moisture will enter western Arizona for a slight chance of showers across the western third of the state. Tonight, a good chance of showers will develop along and west of a line extending from Payson to Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon before midnight. Shower activity will then spread across the remainder of northern Arizona heading into Tuesday. The best chance for showers on Tuesday will be along and south of a Grand Canyon to Flagstaff to Show Low line. The snow level will start out in the range of 6500-to-7500-feet this evening but lower to 6000-to-7000-feet after midnight. We’re generally looking at 3-to-7-inches of snow accumulation at elevations above 6500-feet from midnight tonight through Tuesday evening. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of Tuesday from the Kaibab Plateau southeastward across the Mogollon Rim to the White Mountains. Daytime highs will drop 10-to-15-degrees on Tuesday with breezy to windy conditions expected. From Christmas Day onward…the state will remain in a cold and unsettled pattern that could last into Saturday. It now appears a pair shortwave disturbances will move across northern Arizona on Christmas Day with another 2-to-4-inches of snow expected. Snow level’s will drop to as low as 4,500-feet.
