Looking more like stormy weather for Christmas

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff continues to track storms that may impact the Christmas Holiday. Officials say models are indicating a trough will set up over the western United States for the Christmas week, bringing cool, unsettled weather to the area. Currently it looks like we’ll see a series of shortwave troughs passing through the area, but the timing and impacts remain unclear. The systems that will move through the Southwest have the potential to cause impacts to travel, but it is too soon to say if and when these impacts will occur. The effects of the storms will become clearer by the end of this weekend. If you are traveling through the holiday season, it’s always wise to plan to leave early to give yourself extra time too safely reach your destinations. Remember, just a few inches of snow can have significant impacts to road conditions and travel speeds. Have an emergency winter kit in your car in case you get stranded, make sure your gas tank is at least half full and have a fully charged cellphone.
