BAER Team finishes assessment of Cellar Fire burn scar

The Prescott National Forest Burned Area Emergency Response team finished its assessment of the impacts of the Cellar Fire, which is now 100% contained.  The assessment identified areas of severe burn and potential threats to human life and safety, property, and potential threats to important cultural and natural resources. The effects of the fire on the soil shows that 26% of the fire burned at low severity; 47% burned in moderate severity and 14% burned at high severity. Given the location of the fire footprint, final assessments indicate minimal values at risk within the fire perimeter or downstream. Therefore there will be no additional treatments other than maintaining the closure area through September 30-th, which is the end of monsoon season. Areas affected by the 2017 Goodwin fire scar’s additional stream flow and sediment delivery will not be affected by additional flows or sediment delivery created by Cellar Fire scar.
