Kaibab Forest crews finish burn near Williams/next burn slated to start Thursday

Kaibab National Forest crews made good progress on the Sunflower Prescribed Burn south of Williams Tuesday, which is the cause for all the smoke today. A helicopter was used for aerial ignitions in combination with ground crews. The Russell Prescribed Fire project is next on the list and is slated to begin Thursday weather permitting. Fire managers hope to treat up to 2,100-acres with fire southeast of Tusayan. This burn could take up to 12-days to complete.
