Smoke in the area from prescribed burns.

The smoke that can been seen from I-17 and Highway 179 east of the Village of Oak Creek is from a 2000 acre prescribed fire just South of Stoneman Lake. The Coconino National Forest started ignitions yesterday and burns will continue through today. Smoke is expected to move toward the northeast though cooling temperatures in the evenings may cause light smoke to settle in low-lying areas such as Wet Beaver Creek, Rarick Canyon, Rattlesnake Canyon, with possible impacts to communities near Rimrock. The public can view approved prescribed burns on ADEQ’s website at smoke.azdeq.gov. Coconino National Forest burns begin with the designation “COF.”
