Memorial services take place this afternoon at 2:30 for a Phoenix police officer killed in the line of duty while investigating a crash. The visitation for Officer Paul Rutherford is at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church in Avondale. His funeral is scheduled for tomorrow at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Peoria. Rutherford died last Thursday after being hit by a vehicle in west Phoenix. He was 51. The driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. She was not impaired and charges have not been brought against her.
