BBB warning about deceptive Home Improvement and Contractor Scams.

The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to use caution when hiring a home improvement contractor. Contractor scams can happen any time especially following a major storm or flood. Consumers should be aware of high-pressure sales tactics and upfront fees. Scams can start with a knock on the door, a flier or an ad, offering a low price and short time frame. Scammers claim to be working in the neighborhood on another project and have leftover supplies. Con artists will take homeowners’ money and deliver poor work or no work at all. Before hiring a contractor, the BBB suggests; do your research, request multiple quotes, and always get it in writing. In 2018 alone, BBB reported 27,765 inquiries, 88 complaints and 350 home improvement scams resulting in over 600,000 dollars lost.
