Unattended running cars are an easy target for thieves.

The Prescott Valley Police Department is warning citizens that leaving unattended cars warming in driveways and parking lots makes them easy targets for car thieves. Spokesman Jerry Ferguson says Thursday evening, a vehicle was left unattended with the motor running in front of business in Prescott Valley. When the driver exited the business, he observed his vehicle being driven from the parking lot. He says although the vehicle was later recovered in Dewey, this incident could have been avoided had proper precautions been taken. Ferguson says your car is safest with the windows rolled up and the doors locked, even if it is in front of your home. And to never leave valuable items visible in your vehicle.
