Motorists heading to the high country this weekend should be ready for winter weather.

With a long weekend at hand and snow in the forecast, those heading to the high country should leave prepared for extended time in winter weather and for the possibility of delays around popular snow-play areas such as Highway 180 northwest of Flagstaff. Before heading out, motorists should dress for frigid temperatures, pack an emergency kit that includes blankets, snacks and extra water, and put off travel when snow is falling until plows can clear highways. Motorists should also have a fully charged cellphone and a full tank of gas.
