$500,000 in heroin seized during YCSO traffic stop

YCSO arrested a man and woman from New Mexico on felony drug charges during a recent traffic stop. Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says 37-year old Juan Breceda and 32-year old Laura Carrasco were stopped on I-17 in the Cordes Lakes area for moving violations. He says the deputy could see marijuana on the passenger floorboard and Breceda was acting very nervous. The deputy also found warrants for both individuals. Initially, deputies found a marijuana cigarette inside a cigar package stored in a passenger door compartment. When checking the trunk, deputies noticed the trunk liner appeared disturbed and when it was pulled back, several packages of heroin were found. They were field tested and returned positive for heroin. The total weight of all packages was 12-pounds. He says Carrasco admitted to transporting the drugs and indicted Breceda knew they were in the vehicle. Investigators are looking into where the drugs came from and where they were headed. The heroin is valued at over a half-million-dollars.
