982 fatal crashes in 2018

Arizona did manage to drop its overall fatal crashes in 2018, but not by much. According to ADOT there were 982 fatal crashes between January 1-st and December 31-st, 2018, down 18 from the state’s highest record of 1,000 set in 2017. Last year ADOT decided to put a counter on the main page of their website displaying the number of fatal crashes in the state in hopes it would encourage drivers to be more careful. More than 90% of crashes are caused by driver behavior. Speeding, impairment, distraction and aggressive driving are leading factors in fatal crashes.
