Christmas Eve day, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office responded to Horseshoe Bend Overlook near Page for a report of a missing 14-year-old girl. Officials say her family reported they had last seen her around 2-pm at the overlook. Search and Rescue, along with a DPS helicopter, were searching for the missing girl when DPS Ranger spotted her some 700-feet below the overlook. It appears she lost her footing and fell. Due to nightfall, rescuers were not able to recover her body until Christmas Day. The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine her exact cause of death. Sheriff’s deputies say the teen was visiting from the San Jose, California, area. They believe the fall was an accident but are still investigating.
