Highway 179 Northbound out of the Village of Oak Creek is shut down due to an earlier traffic accident. Sedona Fire Battalion Chief Jordan Baker says crews responded to a single vehicle accident involving a commercial box truck that had gone off the embankment. Though no one was injured, the crash punctured the vehicle’s gas tank and oil pan. A HAZMAT team has been called in to keep the spill from impacting the Oak Creek Watershed. The Highway will remain closed for a heavy wrecker to remove the damaged truck. Heavy traffic impacts are expected as ADOT officials estimate the road could be closed for over 4 hours. Motorists are being re-routed via Beaverhead Flats to Cornville Road to 89A North to Sedona.
