Fire officials say closed doors make a dramatic difference in the event of a house fire.

Fire officials say keeping your bedroom doors close at night can make a dramatic and lifesaving difference in the event of a house fire. Verde Valley Fire Interim Fire Chief Joe Moore says fires are most likely to start in a kitchen or living room and not a bedroom. Having the doors closed will keep out the smoke, which is the leading cause of death in a fire and not the flames themselves. He says closed doors save lives as most fires start when everyone is asleep and some people just don’t wake up.
That’s why Moore says it is imperative to have working smoke detectors in all bedrooms, hallways, kitchen and living room to alert sleeping family members of the potential danger.
