5 forest restoration projects to begin near Parks

The Kaibab National Forest is getting ready to begin timber sales in 5-project areas east of Williams near Parks. The forest restoration efforts have resulted in increased activity that may be noticeable to residents and visitors in the area. Officials say tree marking and boundary layout operations are underway in each of the areas, which stretch from Brannigan Park near Bellemont west to Pittman Valley on the north side of I-40. Once this work is done, the forest will be seeking to offer timber sales to local contractors and others who may be able to support the forest restoration effort. Officials say activity will increase over the next few months as timber sale contracts are awarded. The projects are part of the 4-Forest Restoration; the work will likely take several years to complete.
