Prairie Dog Fire near Williams stopped at 5 acres

Kaibab National Forest Fire crews responded to a wildfire near Williams Tuesday afternoon. Spokesperson Jackie Banks says the fire forced the evacuation of Kaibab Lake Campground for a period of time. She says the Prairie Dog Fire was burning north of I-40, about a mile east of Williams. She says crews aided by water bucket drops successfully stopped the spread of the fire at 5-acres. Once the fire was stopped, campers were allowed back into the campground. Banks says the fire started on private property and then spread onto the forest; the cause is under investigation.
