Seasonal Allergies on the rise

Spring, with its breezy and warm weather, brings out the Juniper pollen and along with it a host of allergy symptoms. Yavapai County Public Health Coordinator Terri Farneti says Juniper pollen is unique, causing allergic reactions in individuals with no other environmental allergy or sensitivity.  Farneti says one way to combat the effects of allergies, is to stay indoors with the windows closed and the air-conditioning running. She says taking antihistamines at night and decongestants during the day is another route, but since medications only cover up the symptoms of allergies, allergy testing and desensitizing may be the right choice. Farneti says natural alternatives like herbs, essential oils and local honey may also ease symptoms.
