Fir Street will be closed briefly this afternoon for mock accident

Sometime between noon and 12:45 today, Fir Street will be closed briefly while students from Mingus High school Juniors and Seniors participate in the “Every 15 minutes” anti-drunk driving program. Coordinator Brady Casson says the nationally recognized program, named when the statistic was every 15 minutes someone was killed in a drunk driving accident, is designed to show what first responders do in a fatal accident situation and drive home the consequences of drunk driving. Casson says besides the mock accident, the program includes a mock trial and a mock funeral. Today, during the mock accident Fir Street, by the Fry’s shopping Center near Camino Real, will be closed between noon and 12:45 so that a medical helicopter can land and remove a patient.
