Arrest made in hit and run boat collision at Bartlett Lake from August of 2017

Tuesday, Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office Detectives arrested the man responsible for the crash on Bartlett Lake that seriously injured a teenage boy. Sheriff Paul Penzone says they arrested 32-year old Brad Becker, of Peoria, for failing to remain at the scene of a boat collision. Back on August 5th of 2017, a 15 year old boy was operating a jet ski on Bartlett Lake, when he was involved in a collision with an unknown fishing style boat. The boy sustained life threatening injuries and was hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury for almost two months. Penzone says Lake Patrol detectives were made aware that Becker had been at Bartlett Lake on his dad’s boat with his girlfriend’s daughter at the time of the crash. He says Tuesday, detectives interviewed the daughter who confirmed and described the events up to and after Brad collided with the teen’s watercraft. Penzone says in addition MCSO detectives were able to identify the shop were the damaged boat had been repaired a week after the collision. Brad was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail for leaving the scene of an injury accident, a class 5 felony.
