12/22 Retired, YCSO K9 Gemma passed away on Friday due to old age. She was first brought to YCSO in 2013 as a narcotics dog and handler protector. During her time as a K9, Gemma located 1,177-pounds of marijuana, 80-pounds of cocaine, 61-pounds of methamphetamine, nearly 9-pounds of heroin, and 79-pounds of hashish. She also won the 2016 National Police Canine Association (NPCA) Detection Case of the Quarter and later Detection Case of the Year after locating 15-pounds of cocaine and heroin during a traffic stop in Yavapai County.
