12/22 DPS is remembering Trooper Louis O. Cochran who was killed on this date in 1958. The 45-year-old was killed while stopped along Highway-80, east of Dateland. His patrol vehicle was struck from behind by a vehicle whose driver was DUI, causing the patrol car to burst into flames. Cochran’s was the first death in the 25-year history of the Arizona Highway Patrol.
