Highway 89 between Flagstaff and Page will be closed for several days

ADOT officials say Highway-89 is closed roughly midway between Flagstaff and Page because heavy rains damaged a section of the highway Wednesday night. Spokesman Garin Groff says the northbound lanes are closed at Cameron and southbound lanes are closed at Highway-160. Groff says a 30 foot section of the road, near a box culvert, sank into the ground. He says at the least it will take several days to fix. In addition, DPS responded to the area Wednesday night for a fatal crash linked to the cave-in. Officials say one person was killed; a name was not released. The alternate routes for the closure will add about 190-miles to a person’s trip. Those routes are I-40, Highway-87, Highway-264 and Highway-160.
