Halloween safety reminders from your local law enforcement.

With Halloween fast approaching, Police Officials are offering tips for a safe and secure trick-or-treating. Officials say to stick to familiar areas that are well lit. Trick-or-treat in groups, and never go out alone. Children should not approach any vehicle, occupied or not, or enter a home. Create a “buddy-system” to make sure no one gets left behind. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls. Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights but not imitation weapons, which can be too realistic in their appearance. And remind children to refrain from eating their treats until they are home and it has been checked for safety and lack of tampering. Drivers should be especially aware between the popular trick-or-treating hours of 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
