Coconino National Forest fire managers are planning on taking advantage of a window of opportunity this week to start multiple prescribed burn operations. This week’s burns will target up to 1,800-acres on the Flagstaff Ranger District and the first 5,000 acres of the Cragin Watershed Protection Project on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District. The burns are a part of the 5-year plan to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health. The 5,000-acre burn near CC Cragin Reservoir will begin today and continue through the week. Wednesday, crews hope to burn 862-acres off Highway-180, about 17-miles northwest of Flagstaff and Thursday they plan to burn another 892-acres in the same general area.
