Camp Verde to Host First Citizen Academy

The Town of Camp Verde is thrilled to announce its first-ever Citizen Academy, an exciting 8-week program designed to give residents an in-depth understanding of local government operations and encourage civic engagement.

Program Details

  • When: Tuesdays, March 4 – April 22, 2025
  • Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Where: Business Resources & Innovation Center (385 S. Main Street, Camp Verde, AZ 86322)

Our Citizen Academy is modeled after successful programs like the Yavapai County Citizens Academy and offers participants an in-depth exploration of the Town’s functions and services, including:

  • Town Governance: Gain insight into the roles and responsibilities of the Town Council, Advisory Boards, and Commissions (Planning & Zoning and Parks & Recreation). Learn about records management, open records requests, agenda preparation, and election processes, presented by the Town Clerk’s Office.
  • Public Works: Understand the critical services provided by the Public Works Department, including Streets, Maintenance, Grounds, Engineering, and Capital Improvements.
  • Parks, Recreation, and Library Services: Explore the programs, events, and facilities managed by Parks & Recreation and the Community Library.
  • Public Safety and Courts: Learn about emergency services offered by the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office, including Dispatch, Records, Animal Control, and Patrol. Gain insight into the workings of the Town’s Courts.
  • Human Resources and Risk Management: Explore the comprehensive approach to personnel management, employee support services, and risk management.
  • Community Development: Provide an overview of how land use matters are processed, covering Building, Planning, Zoning, and Code Enforcement functions.
  • Finance and Economic Development: Delve into the Town’s annual budgeting process, financial management strategies, and economic development efforts.
  • Natural Resources Management: Learn about the Town’s stewardship of water, wastewater, and stormwater.

Objectives:

  1. Educate: Provide participants with a thorough understanding of the Town’s structure and operations.
  2. Engage: Encourage active participation in local governance and community initiatives.
  3. Empower: Equip residents with the knowledge and tools to contribute meaningfully to civic life.
