Hicks and Smith Fires on the Coconino National Forest: Update

10/28 Coconino National Forest spokesman Brady Smith says the Hicks Fire, northeast of Highway-260 and 87, is 111-acres in size and crews are working to suppress it. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Smith Fire, burning between Kachina Village and Munds Park, on the west side of I-17, is 55-acres in size. The fire may be used for management purposes as it’s burning in last year’s Scott Fire burn area. Rain is expected to fall on both fires today and tonight. Neither fire is threatening any structures.
