Coconino County Sheriffs Office Responds to Two Drownings

10/02 The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2-drownings over the weekend. Sunday, they responded to Ashurst Lake when the camp-host found a paddleboard that had washed up on shore. While investigating, deputies received a call from the man’s wife indicating he was overdue. Deputies located an unoccupied vehicle that was set up to haul a Paddleboard that was registered to a Flagstaff resident. Monday, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team arrived and found the man under water. His name has not been released. Saturday, deputies responded to Dogtown Lake to assist Williams Police with recovering the body of 58-year-old Anthony Villarreal of Montana. Villarreal had been kayaking in the lake when a wind gust capsized his kayak. A witness tried to help Villarreal, but he went underwater and never resurfaced. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team located and recovered his body. Neither man was wearing a life-vest.
