Dewey-Humboldt man killed in Friday morning’s 5 vehicle pileup on I-17

A Dewey-Humboldt man has been identified as the person killed in Friday morning’s 5-vehicle pileup on northbound I-17. DPS officials say the crash occurred about 3-miles south of Cordes Junction. Officials say the semi driven by 43-year old James Bottazzi of Flagstaff collided with 3-vehicles on the Interstate sending two of them off the roadway; the third vehicle was pushed into a box truck. Both the 3-rd vehicle and box truck were then blocking both lanes of the interstate. DPS says 71-year old Harry Bates of Dewey-Humboldt was in the third vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene. Two other people suffered minor injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
