Chev Fire burning 30 miles south of Winslow

At last update the lightning ignited Chev Fire the fire had consumed 108 acres. The fire was first spotted Monday morning on the edge of West Chevelon Canyon on the Black Mesa Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, 30-miles south of Winslow, Arizona. Officials say the fire is burning in rugged terrain approximately one mile southwest of the Babbit Winter Ranch.  The fire quickly grew to 50 acres by Monday afternoon, exhausting available resources which were spread thin due to 38 additional lightning caused fires ignited on the forest over the weekend. Crews reported extreme fire behavior Monday afternoon due to strong downdrafts caused by nearby thunderstorms. Crews worked to secure a line around the perimeter of the fire, focusing on keeping the fire from moving south down West Chevelon Canyon.
