Beginning at 8 a.m., Thursday, June 6th, 2024, Yavapai County will enter Stage 1 Fire Restrictions along with the Prescott National Forest, Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, and Bureau of Land Management.
At the Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Chairman Craig Brown, and the Board of Supervisors are expected to approve provisions in the Yavapai County Outdoor Fire Ordinance, prohibiting fireworks, and enacting Stage 1 Fire Restrictions across all four fire zones in Yavapai County.
Chairman Brown said, “To all the folks in Yavapai County, this change in fire status is not uncommon and follows regular weather patterns we are having. Please be careful with anything that has an open flame or can cause a spark. Yavapai County is Firewise!”
The fire zones (North, Central, East, and South) under Ordinance 2020-2 include areas such as Prescott, Prescott Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, Mayer, Cordes Junction, Black Canyon City, Congress, North Wickenburg, Peeples Valley, Yarnell, Wilhoit, Cottonwood, Sedona, Camp Verde, and unincorporated areas.
Prohibited activities include:
- Sale or use of fireworks.
- Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire, except within a developed recreation site.
- Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle/building, a developed recreation site, or in a cleared outdoor area at least three feet in diameter.
- Operating or using any equipment with an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed and maintained.
