Sedona Fire rappels down cliff face to remove a tree stuck several hundred feet above the roadway after a landslide

A small landslide sent debris, rocks and trees onto Highway 89A in Oak Creek Canyon Wednesday morning. During the hours long cleanup operations, Sedona Fire crews rappelled down the face of a cliff to remove a large tree that had gotten stuck several hundred feet above the roadway. Officials say the tree had to be cut into pieces with a chain saw and allowed to fall. Sedona Fire officials, in collaboration with DPS and ADOT, determined to be the most effective way to remove a tree that had fallen but remained dangerously positioned to crash down onto 89A. The roadway was briefly closed during the incident.
