Flagstaff Fire has responded to several grease fires from propane grills in the last several days. Fire officials are reminding those grilling at their private residence to consider that proper cleaning and placement of gas grills is important for safety. Some tips to keep in mind are: grills should be placed at least 10 feet away from homes, deck railings and flammable vegetation; Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill; always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it; and never leave your grill unattended. While in Stage 3 fire restrictions, gas grills and portable gas stoves are prohibited in city parks, open space, and private campgrounds but are still allowed on private residences. Also, the use of any charcoal grill is prohibited.
