Prescott Shooting Incident Leaves One Victim Dead

On November 29th, 2023, at approximately 6:53 a.m. the Prescott Police Department received a 911 call from a male subject stating that he had shot two people at a residence in the 900 Block of Peace Ln.  When Officers arrived on scene they located Taj Stephens, a 47-year-old Yuma resident, outside the residence with superficial wounds to his head.  Inside the residence officers located Cheyenne Miller, a 29-year-old Prescott resident, with a single gunshot wound to the chest area, and River Maize, a 24-year-old Prescott resident, with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

All three subjects were initially treated on scene by EMS personnel and transported to YRMC west campus.  Stephens’ injuries were non-life threatening, and he was treated and later released.  Miller’s injuries were life threatening, and she was flown by Native Air to a Phoenix area hospital.  Miller received medical treatment and was later released from the hospital.  Maize’s injuries were critical upon arrival at YRMC. Life saving measures proved to be unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased.

As a result of the investigation Taj Stephens was arrested and charged with burglary and misconduct involving weapons. Cheyenne Miller was also arrested and charged with Burglary, sale or transportation of narcotic drugs, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, and misconduct involving weapons.  Both subjects are currently in the custody of the Yavapai County Sherrif’s Office.

The investigation into the death of Maize is still currently active.
