RED LIGHT VIOLATIONS CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURIES AND EVEN FATALITIES
Red light violations are on the rise in Prescott Valley. To promote and ensure the continued safety of our community members and guests, it is important for you to know that our police officers and traffic enforcement officers are on the road every day enforcing traffic laws on our streets and highways.
In 2021, 1,109 people in the United States were killed in crashes that involved running red lights. In that same year, approximately 127,000 people were injured running red lights. Besides the possibility of having a vehicle crash with serious consequences, there could be other costs, as well.
- A red-light violation results in 2 points to your license.
- As a result, red light violations can have a larger impact on your insurance premiums than a speeding ticket.
- If you are found responsible for a red-light violation, the court will notify the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division. The MVD will then send you a notice requiring you to complete an 8-hour traffic survival school class.
- This class cannot be taken online and must be taken in person, and if you fail to take the class, your license will be suspended.
- Red light violations are charged under R.S. 28-645(A)(3)(a).
