On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at approximately 12:06 p.m., Prescott Police Officers responded to a single vehicle collision in the area of Copper Basin Rd. and Highland Ave. Upon arrival officers located a vehicle into a large tree in the driveway of a residence located in the 800 block of Copper Basin Rd.
Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that a 68-year-old Prescott resident, driving a 2005 Ford Van, was traveling westbound on Copper Basin Rd., when for an unknown reason it crossed left of center, going off the roadway. The vehicle went down into a ditch before striking a mailbox and hitting a large embankment. The vehicle then came back onto the roadway, still westbound, where it crossed back across both lanes of travel before leaving the roadway again and coming to rest after striking a large tree.
The Prescott Fire Department and EMS personnel responded to the scene to provide medical aid to the driver. The driver suffered major injuries during the incident and was later flown from YRMC West to a Phoenix area hospital. The driver of the vehicle was not cited for any traffic violations and neither speed nor impairment are believed to be a factor in this incident.
Copper Basin Road was closed between Park Ave. and Highland Ave. for approximately three hours while the Traffic Safety Section investigated the collision.
