Friday evening, Cottonwood Fire and Police responded to an apartment complex fire on South 6-th Street. Cottonwood Police Sgt. Gareth Braxton says responding officers began evacuating the 8-apartments. He says while evacuations were taking place, the fire spread through the roof resulting in several units receiving significant damage. Fire crews extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to other buildings in the complex. Braxton says witnesses indicated the fire began on the balcony area of one apartment. During the evacuations, the occupant of the apartment was not located inside. He says the woman did return and could not account for how the fire started, indicating she had not been cooking prior to her going to work. It’s unclear how the fire began.
