On Thursday evening, a YCSO K-9 unit conducted a traffic stop on I-40 with the assistance of a patrol deputy. Hidden in the truck were 4 large PVC tubes. containing 63.5lbs (approximately 287,750) of fentanyl pills. The tubes were strapped to the undercarriage in the rear quarter panels. STICKS AND STONES CAN HURT MORE THAN FEELINGS
On Friday June 30th just before midnight, YCSO Deputies stopped a vehicle on Cornville Rd for Criminal Speeding on Page Spring Road. When one deputy approached the vehicle, the driver, 48-year-old David Wayne Atkerson, began reaching around inside the car, causing the deputy to ask him to step out of the car. Further suspicious behaviors prompted the deputy to ask Atkerson if there were drugs in the car and if he would consent to a search of the car. When Atkerson said no, the deputy requested a K-9 response.
Atkerson became agitated and the deputy asked another responding deputy to place Atkerson in handcuffs while he wrote a citation. At this point Atkerson fled and fell into a nearby drainage ditch but was unharmed. The second deputy followed him and attempted to take the driver into custody while Atkerson was still on the ground, when Atkerson grabbed a rock as if to hit the deputy. The deputy was able to force him to drop that rock, but the suspect then grabbed another rock. When it appeared the physical conflict could result in serious injury, the deputy made the decision to disengage from the suspect. This allowed the other deputy to subdue the suspect using a taser, which is a less-lethal use of force, thereby safely taking Atkerson into custody.
Atkerson was searched and 7.6 grams of Methamphetamine were found. Atkerson was arrested and booked for Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Speed.
GUN TOTING SUSPECT FINDS HIMSELF FACEDOWN IN THE DIRT
Also on Friday June 30th, around 9:15 p.m., YCSO responded to 1027 N Old Chisolm Trail in the Prescott Country Club for a report of a disorderly subject with a gun who had just shot it and was being held down by one of the victims.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim holding the suspect 76-year-old Ronald John Hart on the ground and a revolver was found close by. The victim, along with his fiancé, had some contact with Ronald earlier in the evening that was not confrontational in nature about a trailer that was parked near Hart’s property.
While at dinner, the victim got and alert on his phone from home cameras and observed Ronald on his property. When the victim arrived home, Hart confronted the victim, and this time was very confrontational about it. Victim advised he tried to reason with Hart, but said he seemed intoxicated, so the victim went into his house trying to defuse the situation. Hart continued to yell outside and despite further attempts to calm him down, Hart confronted the victim with a gun. While the victim grabbed Hart’s arm, he was able to still fire one shot before the victim was able to knock the gun out of Hart’s hand and hold him on the ground until deputies arrived. No was harmed when the gun fired.
Multiple witnesses corroborated the victim’s account, and though Hart denied any involvement, he was booked on weapons misconduct, 3 counts of endangerment, disorderly conduct with a weapon, 2 counts of disorderly conduct and Trespassing.
