Yavapai Apache man charged with stealing and firing a rifle in town limits

Monday morning, Clarkdale Police responded to a report on Lamar Lane of a man dressed in all black firing a rifle within town limits. Chief Randy Taylor says dispatch could hear the shooting over the phone. The initial officer spoke to the homeowner where the suspect had entered, and verified he and his family were out of town and no one was allowed at the house. Taylor says at that time additional officers were called in from neighboring agencies and a perimeter was established. The suspect was arrested at the back of the home after he exited the house and went to the roof of the garage. The suspect is identified as Malachi Cardona of the Yavapai Apache community. It was discovered that he broke into two homes in the area as well as a vehicle. The rifle he was firing was stolen during one of the burglaries. He was jailed on charges that included burglary, misconduct involving weapons, being a prohibited possessor and endangerment.
