An historic 200-to-500-year rainfall event hit the Museum Fire Burn Scar above Flagstaff yesterday causing major flooding within the Museum Flood Area. It was the largest rainfall event to date with just over 3-inches of rain falling over the burn area in a very short period of time. Coconino County and Flagstaff crews are working to repair damages in preparation for what could be another day of heavy monsoon activity. The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms are likely today and with the ground already saturated, much of the rain will become runoff. A drying trend begins tomorrow and continues through the weekend. A flash flood watch is in place until 11-pm tonight. The damage to public infrastructure and private property is being assessed. Anyone needing help is asked to call the Museum Flood Area Call Center at 928-679-8525. Pre-filled sandbags are available at the Coconino County Health Department office behind Cal Ranch and self-fill sandbags are at their office on King Street.
